Blue Badge Qualification
|
To ensure that you get the services of a properly Trained, Qualified and Registered Official Tour Guide you can check that your guide belongs to these national professional organisations. Many unqualified guides call themselves "Trained" or "Professional" to give the impression they are qualified, but you can check if they are by looking up their name on the websites of the Institute and Guild below. Membership of the Guild also ensures that your guide has full professional public liability insurance.
We are all Registered official England 'Blue Badge' Tourist Guides.
The Institute of Tourist Guiding
The Institute of Tourist Guiding was founded in 2002 as the professional institution for tourist guides in the United Kingdom. It took over responsibility from the Regional Tourist Boards for the training and awarding of the Blue Badge and the Annual Registration of Tourist Guides. Guides who are members of the Institute have MITG after their names.
The Institute is recognised by the Government as the official standard setting body for the whole tourist guiding sector.
The Guild of Registered Tourist Guides
The Guild of Registered Tourist Guides has existed since 1950 and is the national organisation for Blue Badge Tourist Guides throughout the British Isles. It has nearly 800 full members and through a network of regional associations, it represents around 1900 tourist guides in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Jersey. Between then they speak over 40 languages. The coveted Blue Badge is an internationally recognised hallmark of excellence both in site and heritage interpretation and communication skills. The Guild also provides Public Liability Insurance for all its members.
